The rape case involving Mrs. Seyitan Babatayo and popular Nigerian artist, D’Banj has
provoked demands for justice. The public outcry gets louder as more intricacies involved in the
case unfolds. Activists have rallied on D’Banj’s Instagram comment section to troll him and
repeatedly ask the question, ‘where is Seyitan?’ Seyitan has remained silent since she tweeted
that she was no longer going to pursue the rape allegations on 17th June, 2020. Her silence has
prompted unrest on social media, as activists are probing D’Banj for his involvement in her
disappearance. Activists view Ms. Babatayo’s arrest as one of the musician’s tactics to silence
the victim.

More information on the issue has erupted, as it was revealed that the musician drove from Eko
hotel, where he was lodged to Glee hotel, where the victim was and demanded her room key
from the receptionist at 2.40 pm. This took place after D’Banj had allegedly offered her some
money to spend the night which she rejected at an all-white party. Benjamin Ese, Ms. Babatayo’s
friend, said that D’Banj allegedly “got into my friend’s room and forcefully threatened he would
walk her out of the room naked, kept his fingers in her vagina and repeatedly raped her.”
Mohammed Adamu, the Inspector-General of Police, has ordered an investigation into the rape
allegations against D’Banj on June 19, 2020.This letter which contained the reference number
CB.7000/IGP.SEC/ABJ/VOl.484/801 was signed by Idowu Owohunwa, the Principal Staff
Officer to the Inspector-General, DCP. The letter which was conveyed to the Deputy Inspector-
General of Police, Force Criminal Investigation Department, Abuja, was in response to a petition
written by a lawyer to Miss Seyitan Babatayo, Mr. Tommy Ojoge-Daniel. The letter is titled,
‘Petition Against Oladapo Daniel Oyebanjo for Rape Indecent Sexual Assault, Attempted
Assault on Miss Seyitan Temidayo.’
The letter gives the assurance that the matter is being examined by the authorities. However,
activists still suspect that a lot is being shoved under the carpet. Therefore, demanding more
answers to be revealed, and actions to be executed regarding the phenomenon.
