Seyitan Babatayo Quits D’banj Rape Allegations amid Arrest.

Ms. Seyitan Babatayo took to twitter on the 17th of June, 2020 to announce that she is backing
out of the rape allegations she made against the Nigerian musician, Dapo Oyebanjo, popularly
known as D’banj. This statement was uttered after the claim of her arrest was confirmed by her
lawyer, Olamide Omileye. “They arrested Seyitan this morning in Lagos. They arrested our client
but somebody is already there to facilitate her release on bail”, her lawyers disclosed. However, MsBabatayo has dismissed the claim via twitter, stating that she was not arrested. According to Premium Times, It has been revealed by her lawyer that Ms Babatayo was intimidated and coerced to delete her tweets, and tweet that she was not under arrest and needed to pull out of the allegations, while in police custody.

Ms. Babatayo, who was arrested on June 16, 2020, was arrested at the Sodipo Command, Ikeja,
Lagos, revealed the dehumanizing treatments that she was subject to. He phone was confiscated, her tweets were deleted, and she was denied access to activists and her lawyers. According to the lawyer, the victim’s intention accelerated beyond what she intended. According to him, “she was only out to speak her truth, tell her story so everybody can move on”. According to Kiki Mordi, an investigative journalist, established a correlation between the victim’s arrest and her open announcement of being raped by D’banj, she said, Seyitan accused D’banj a couple of weeks before this article of sexual assault. Yesterday at about noon, Seyitan was and is still detained in Sodipo Ikeja and hasn’t been granted access to friends, family or lawyer.” D’banj has denied his involvement in her arrest
This issue is a build-up on the announcement made by Benjamin Ese, who alleged that D’banj
raped Ms. Babatayo, on December 31, 2018, at Glee Hotel in Victoria Island, Lagos. This claim
was reinforced by the victim who narrated her experience with D’banj, June 3, 2020. D’banj
openly disclosed on his Instagram page that Ms. Babatayo claim is a ‘lie from the pit of hell.’ He
went further to state that the issue is a huge slap to his family and believers. On June 15,
D’banj’s lawyer, Mike Ozekhome, sued Ms Babatayo and demanded N100 million as
recompense for falsely accusing his client. Also, a letter of apology and retraction of her
statements were to be and published in four national dailies.


Meanwhile, activists have taken to social media to rally for justice on behalf of Ms. Babatayo.
