The Age Of The Youths; End SARS in Nigeria.

For Youths that were labeled lazy to the whole world by their president in 2018, the Nigerian youth have proven that the term ‘Lazy’ is far from what can be used to describe them.

Call it anger, frustration, disappointment, fear, or even rebellion, the Nigerian youth following the protest to end SARS has shown the world that they are done being quiet and are ready for a revolution to change their country. A country that has been held captive by corrupt government

officials and governing elites.

The Special Anti-Robbery Squad was established in 1992 to combat cases of armed robbery, kidnapping, and other related crimes. However, officers under this unit have done the exact opposite, harassing and murdering young people for owning iPhones, driving expensive cars, and in summary for simply living. And the lives lost will forever live in the hearts of their loved ones

In a series of tweets, John Boyega has said that he perceives that the fight to put an end to the atrocities of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad as a call for a true change in Nigeria, and maybe this is the case.

There is a lot that needs to be changed from unemployment to poor health care,

no electricity, poverty, corruption, the list is endless. However, in less than a week, we got a glimpse of what the future of Nigeria could look like being run by the Youth of the country. A highly efficient and functional community of legal aids, medical care, food, shelter, a cleanup crew and even an emergency hotline across the nation has been up and running this past week and is continually being funded by the public, majorly the Youths themselves.

Feyikemi Abudu and Mo Odele and members of the Feminist Coalition have done a tremendous job in ensuring the constant flow of this ecosystem, along with the rest of the volunteers and others that only want what they feel is best for the country. With just a call to the hotline set up, lawyers would be sent to unlawfully jailed protestors to help bail them out, an ambulance on stand by would be sent immediately in the case of an emergency at the sites, and a charging port was created to ensure people could always make that call and stay in touch with their loved ones.

We do not know how long this protest is going to last but what we do know is that the Nigerian

Youths have awoken from their slumber. We are sure the president must be rethinking his

statement and even if he isn’t the lazy Nigerian youth are resilient and united until there’s a positive change.
