More and more people, on social media, are seen to have been hit with the green thumb.

And not only for the Bella Hadid Challenge.

But with a virus on the loose, its a no brainer that people want to keep their source of oxygen right by their side. Covid-19 might have disrupted daily routines of harnessing inspiration from morning strolls, visiting the park, the beach or whatever location that provides serenity and amplifies creative thinking, but it hasn’t prevented plants from boosting breathing and creativity by 15%. The state of unproductiveness can be drowning, so why not keep a plant at proximity to keep the juices flowing.

Now plants aren’t one trick poníes, they also detoxify your environment, making the air cleaner and safer to breathe in - and we all need that now. NASA discovered that in 24 hours, houseplants can eliminate up to 87% of air toxins.

Say bye to bad energy.

At this point you might still be deciding whether to hit the botanic or the pet store.

But here’s why plants are as significant (or better) as pets; just like pets, plants have similar effects on the psychological, physiological and emotional wellbeing of humans. Research has postulated that plants are therapeutic; keeping them at peripheral vision lowers blood pressure, mental fatigue and reduces anxiety and depression levels.

In addition, plants enhance mood and happiness, just like pets. Having an indoor garden can be one’s sanctuary and source of joy. Regardless of the size of your home, introducing certain plants will promote a healthy lifestyle.

Plants like peppermint decrease frustration and increase attentiveness. Chamomile and Lavender are known for their anti-anxiety, anti-depressant, and sleep aid effect. Jasmine and Aloe Vera help to reduce anxiety; Aloe Vera extracts harmful chemicals from the air, as well as the Gerbera plant which removes benzene from the air.

FYI - Benzene is a chemical found in inks; long term exposure to this chemical can lead to anemia and a damaged immune system. It would be worthwhile for Calligraphers and cartoonist to have the Gerbera plant in their work space.

And best of all, they don’t poop on your rugs
